You're looking at the first issue of the new Hot Salsa Kitchen Newsletter. This has been a labor of love for the past 6 weeks. But, it's also been an idea in the back of my mind for the past 6 months. Here you'll find articles and information on dance instructors, clubs, restaurants, music, bands and of course the dancers that make up the great salsa community here and across the country. Thats right! This is not exclusive to Chicago. I've included information about Viva La Salsa, the dramatic theatrical production; an article on dance etiquette by Leah Patterson in North Carolina and clubs to visit in St. Louis. I welcome your thoughts and comments and I am extending an invitation to anyone that would like to contribute articles for future issues. You can email me at: Thanks and I hope you enjoy reading the first issue. Chris
Elba has 10
years of experience performing and studying Latin and a variety of other
contemporary dances including Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cha-cha, Cumbia,
Punta, Bachata, Samba, Swing, Waltz (American Ballroom), and Jazz to
name a few. In
addition to her life experience, she is proud to say that she gained
technical training from Latin Rhythms Dance Co., Joel Hall Dance Co.,
and Lou Conte Dance Co.

Bachata,
a form of
music and
dance that originated in the countryside and the rural neighborhoods
of the
Dominican Republic. Its subjects are often
romantic; especially prevalent are tales of
heartbreak and sadness. In fact, the original term used to name the
genre was amargue
("bitterness," or "bitter music"), until the rather ambiguous (and
mood-neutral) term bachata
became popular.
If you happen to find yourself in St. Louis, Missouri for a few days, you'll be happy to know there are a couple of places to dance. Thursday night salsa is at Club Viva in the trendy Central West End. And Dante's has salsa on Saturday night. On the plus side, Viva has the new Video DJ system so you can watch the MTV videos of the songs you dance to. On the down side, Missouri still allows smoking in bars and restaurants.
Viva La Salsa Event! Have you been to all of the congresses, local salsa events, and festivals? Are you looking for something more? Are you looking for the next Salsa experience?
Las Tablas features adventurous South American cocktails, tapas-style appetizers, paella, homemade desserts, and dishes from Havana, Rio, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, and beyond. This was the debut release by Mark 'Markolino' Dimond, and was later

introduced the great and unique sonero to the salsa scene through a very
